It is summertime and therefore it is time for families and friends to spend much time outdoor in the warm sunshine. It is time to enjoy an outdoor barbeque or two and, of course, many water lovers will go to swimming at the beach or swimming pool. In addition to water activities of all kinds and barbeques galore, many outdoor lovers will go camping and hiking. If people do go exploring outdoors then, they might need an emergency survival kit. Therefore, it is very important that everyone knows what is in an emergency survival kit.

It is summertime and therefore it is time for people to enjoy the great outdoors by going swimming at a beach or at a lake or swimming pool. Other people will enjoy the great outdoors this summer by barbequing outdoors every weekend or by going camping from time to time. In addition, after summer comes the seasons of fall and winter and during both those seasons’ people also like to spend time outdoors.

This is especially true in winter when people like to ski, snowboard, and ice skate. In short, the four seasons are a time to explore and have exciting outdoor adventures. However, if people are going to go explore the outdoors via barbequing, camping, hiking, ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, or any other outdoor activity the, it is very important that they are aware of what is an emergency survival kit and what is in a good emergency survival kit.

A survival kit is a package of basic tools and supplies prepared in advance as an aid to people’s survival in an emergency situation. Did you know that military aircraft, lifeboats, and spacecraft have survival kits? In addition, civilians such as forestry workers, surveyors, and bush pilots who work in remote locations or work in regions with extreme climate conditions may also have an emergency survival kit. Did you also know that disaster supply kits are also kept on hand by those people who live in areas prone to earthquakes and other natural disasters such as California and Illinois?

Emergency survival kits contain both supplies and tools that provide people with basic shelter against the elements and keep warm, provide for their first aid needs, provide them with food and water, signal to rescuers, and assist them in finding their way back to help. The supplies in a survival kit should contain a knife, preferably a Swiss army knife or a multi use tool, matches, first aid kit, hand sanitizer, bandana, fish hooks, sewing kit, and a flashlight with batteries.

Many first aid kit items can and do have many improvised items in a survival situation such as alcohol pads and petroleum jelly based ointments can be used as a fire starting aid in emergency situations. In addition, did you know that both adhesive tape and bandages for repairs. These alternative uses can be an important consideration when picking items when choosing items for an emergency survival kit that may be used in a wilderness or survival situations. Another interesting fact is that emergency responders today use a more advanced medical kit called a trauma bag that contain greater quantities and better quality first aid supplies. Did you also know that commercially available emergency survival kits available in North American and Europe are identified by a red cross or a green cross? Remember to have an emergency survival kit handy at all times.

The following words about the possible adaptation for discount lab coats had their origin in the imagination and skills of a Pennsylvania mother. Forty years ago, one mother wanted to provide her daughter with some way to protect her clothes while in her art class. That mother took an old shirt that her husband no longer wore. She created “pockets” using the shirt ends and a pair of large buttons. Then she embroidered the design for a palette and paint brushes onto the breast pocket of the old shirt. The daughter saved that shirt and used it when she was teaching a Baha’i children’s class.

An online store that sells discount lab coats offers far more than the standard white coat with large pockets, button holes and buttons. That virtual storefront carries discount lab coats for medical professionals, for chemists, for dentists, and even lab coats for kids. Moreover, not all of those lab coats have been made from the standard cotton material. Some of those discount lab coats have been fashioned from fire resistant material. Other lab coats sold at a discounted price carry a ticket that says something like “wear only once.” They are disposable lab coats.

Another type of lab coat sold from such a virtual store front suggests a possible adaptation for discount lab coats. That additional type of lab coat is the embroidered lab coat. Given the right type of embroidery, a kids’ lab coat could find multiple uses. Suppose, for instance that a child has elected to participate in an after school ceramics class. Suppose too that the child’s mother has expressed concerned about how the child might damage his or her clothing while handling the various materials available to students in that ceramics class. Suppose that the mother would like the child to wear some sort of protective cover.

Children usually like to look stylish. Few children want to cover a great-looking outfit with a less than stylish form of protection. Suppose though that a protective cover could be made to look “special.” Would that not encourage a child to don that particular form of protection?

Well, by using embroidery on a kids’ lab coat, a parent can make a coat that appears quite unique. The parent might look for drawings that match with items that are apt to be in the child’s hand. If, for example, a child intends to do some painting, then the parent might look for a drawing of a palette and paint brushes. Such a design could be embroidered onto a kids’ lab coat.

A parent could use the same idea, if a son or daughter were to sign-up for an after school science class. Children can get a bit careless while doing simple science experiments. While those careless children would probably not cause an explosion, they might get their clothes dirty. Yet a child might agree to wear a kids’ lab coat that had an appropriate symbol embroidered onto a pocket.

Most parents would not want to buy an expensive lab coat, and then embroider some sort of design on that lab coat. Such a coat would probably get only limited use. The parent would therefore have reason to consider buying a lab coat that has been offered at a discounted price. Of course, a parent who is also active in a civic or faith-based organization might well find additional uses for such a coat. Such a coat could be used to protect those helping with some sort of “project.” Such a project, a project sponsored by a government, cultural or religious organization, could well ask that a child or teenager have his or her hands on rather “messy” materials.

Travel first aid kits come in all varieties and sizes to cater to a variety of people. Whether you commute by car, are a soccer mom, or are going on a big trip, a first aid kit of any size can come in handy. It might save you the minor convenience of bleeding from a cut, or it can save the life of someone. Travel first aid kits are an investment of the wisest kind. When many people pack things to go away for a short trip, one of the few things that may cross their mind is a first aid kit. But, packing one of these may be the wisest decision a traveler can ever make, no matter what mode of transportation they are using or how long of a trip they are venturing.

If one travels frequently by car, creating a small kit or purchasing a ready-made kit is a must. One can go to most pharmacies or a department or grocery store and find premade kits in all sizes and prices catering to a variety of needs. Factor in other things such as having children or pets, and if you frequently carpool or have others in your vehicle.

This will help determine the size of the kit and first aid needs. A parent who has children that are active in sports and frequently takes other kids along in their vehicle will have much different needs than a young, single person who commutes to work but likes outdoor adventures on the weekends.

Someone who is going on a trip and going by plane will obviously not want to haul along a huge kit as a part of their carry-on bag. Even tucking a few items such as band-aids, antibiotic cream, and basic medications like aspirin into a pocket of a carry on can be helpful and better than nothing. For those who are traveling abroad or will be out in the wilderness, packing an extensive kit is a must and travelers may even want to consider purchasing a professional kit just to have all necessities covered.

A basic first aid kit should include a variety of bandages in several sizes, burn ointment, cleaning pads or antiseptic spray, tape, a large piece of cloth [to cover large wounds or to make a tourniquet or sling if needed], latex gloves, basic medicines like aspirin, and animal or insect bite treatment. These are the necessities and should be in every kit regardless of the user and their needs. Other items to add include a blanket or wrap of some sort for warmth, a bee sting kit, a CPR mask, and various bandages and first aid skin treatments for different types of wounds. Depending on the number of people who regularly travel in your vehicle, expand or decompress the number of each item you decide to include. Other items to include with a first aid kit include a flashlight [the kinds that are self cranking and do not need batteries are ideal], a small radio, a pocket knife or multi tool, and if weather gets cold in your area a trauma kit that includes blanket s and a few articles of warm clothing.

Pre made kits are inexpensive and cover a wide range of needs. From less than ten dollars to more than fifty dollars, a person can have a pre made kit that includes a large variety of items, some of which may not be purchased alone. No matter what, determine your personal needs and invest in one. Then keep it well stocked and up to date. A ten dollar investment in a kit may save your life in an emergency.

Everyone has a need for a first aid kit, and that need for a kit goes beyond throwing one in the car. Depending on one’s personal needs and adventures, they may need certain items that someone else does not. Having a kit at home, at work, and in the car so first aid supplies are never more than a short distance away can make all the difference in times of emergency.

One does not like to think about unpleasant things such as injury, but being prepared in the event of an emergency matters. Depending on who you are and what you encounter each day, you may have different needs when constructing or purchasing a first aid kit. The most difficult part of having a first aid kit is anticipating the needs and acquiring the necessary items for it. A first aid kit in an emergency can save a life. What should one include in a first aid kit?

First, who are you? As a person, you may have different needs from other people. A mother whose children play sports will need a much more extensive kit than a single person who simply wants a smaller kit to throw in their glove compartment “just in case.” Buying a base kit and then adding to it is a wise idea, as is ordering a larger professional one and modifying it to suit your individual purposes.

But first and foremost, determine who you are, your personal needs, and how many people your kit will be serving. If there are small children, consider in buying some smaller child-sized items as one size does not always fit all when it comes to first aid. Those who are involved in outdoor adventures and contact sports are going to want a more extensive kit as well.

Basic items that should be in any kit regardless of the user include band-aids of various sizes, latex gloves, antiseptic, alcohol swabs, treatment for burns, stings, and bites, and gauze or other dressings for a larger wound. It is also a good idea to include basic medicines such as aspirin in a kit, especially for people who are at risk for a heart attack. If there is a possibility of someone being allergic to bee stings or other insect bites, an allergy kit is a must.

Consider ice packs that can be activated and used in a hurry as well as Ace bandage wraps and adjustable braces for those who play sports and are subject to contact injuries. A CPR mask and a thermal blanket to cover a trauma victim are good ideas that hopefully never need used. Objects for splinting and bracing if there are possibilities of broken bones are also of vital importance. Finally, non-medical items such as a flashlight, tweezers, and a multifunction tool may come in handy during an emergency.

One thinks of a first aid kit for the car or work shop, but having one already together in the home in an easy to find location can also make a difference. Consider buying smaller kits for travel and a larger one for home, if one does not make their own from scratch. Of most importance is keeping it full and up to date once it is together. In the event of an emergency, a first aid kit matters.

Many premade kinds of first aid kits exist on the market. The only problem with owning one is that it may not cater to all individual needs or the needs of a family. Buying one of these kits and then adding additional items is one way of making a custom first aid kit, as is simply making one from scratch. When a person forms their own first aid kit, there should be several considerations in mind: how many people will be using it, smaller items for children, personal medical needs, and the activities that each person is involved in.

The need for a first aid kit for home, travel, or the car is a great one. It cannot be anticipated when an injury will occur, and in the matter of an emergency can be of great importance. Hopefully a first aid kit is something that never gets used. Having one just in case is wise and shows foresight.

There are many first aid kits on the market that can be purchased. While buying one is not a bad idea or a bad way to develop your own kit, many of these premade kits miss essential items that may be needed in an emergency. For those who have no idea what to put in a kit or want a good foundation to start with, a premade kit is better than nothing. But the best idea is to build a first aid kit from scratch that will suit your personal needs.

The hardest part of building a kit is determining your personal needs. A mother with children who play sports will have drastically different needs than a single guy, or the group of construction workers who need a kit for on the job. First, determine how many people the kit is supposed to serve. This can help in deciding on the overall size. Next, determine their activity level. Anyone who is involved in sports or encounters a dangerous work environment will have special needs that most likely will not be found in a premade kit.

There are some basic items that should be in every first aid kit, regardless of who it is for. Band aids in several assorted sizes and in a fair amount should be in the kit. Antiseptic wipes and ointments to treat burns, bites, and stings are all essential items. Gauze and tape can be used in numerous ways and should be included, as well as a knife or pair of scissors to aid in bandage and splint construction. Aspirin for pain relief and to give to potential heart attack victims is a must, as is allergy medicine. If anyone is allergic to bee stings, a sting kit is vital to include. Latex gloves for protection should be included, and having a face mask is not a bad idea. Ice packs that can be broken and used quickly take up little room but provide much relief for some injuries. A guide to basic first aid can also be useful in emergencies.

Other items to include are ace bandages, or perhaps a brace if one is prone to injuring a certain area of the body. If one opts for a brace over an ace bandage, try to obtain one that is adjustable so it can easily fit more than one person. A large piece of cloth can serve many purposes, including helping to secure a broken bone until professional medical care is obtained. Various medicines should be included in small quantities based on personal needs. One might also consider a CPR mask if properly trained to use it. To supplement a well made kit, one might also consider getting free first aid training from the Red Cross. Coupling a well made first aid kit with some training may help save a life.

An employer should not feel satisfied with knowing that he or she has purchased an OSHA first aid kit. The employer should strive to acquaint employees with both the location of that kit and the contents of that kit. Most employees do not want to attend a long, boring seminar on the company’s first aid kit. How then should an employer encourage employee interest in that same kit? One biomedical facility in Los Angeles County initiated a competition about safety issues. The employees got a weekly question that related to a safety concern. The department that could answer the most questions won that cleverly designed competition.

The Kits recommended by OSHA offer employees greater insurance of on-the-job safety. Because each job has a unique set of potential hazards, OSHA has created first aid kits that can help injured workers in any one of the various job categories. This article offer details regarding how a particular OSHA first aid kit can assist the workers in each of five different job categories.

On Sunday, June 1, 2008, news reports contained information about a fire at the Universal Studios in Los Angeles County. The men and women who responded to the emergency created by that fire must have had at least two different OSHA first aid kits. The firefighters certainly had this particular OSHA first aid kit—the Burn Care Kit. That Kit contains relief gels and creams, plus aerosols and pump sprays. In addition, that Kit gives firefighters a vital supply of burn dressings and burn blankets.

The Burn Kit contains a wealth of items that are of use to those who must deal with a large number of burn victims. First responders sometimes need to treat burn victims, and sometimes they must administer to patients with other types of injuries. That is why first responders rely heavily on yet another OSHA first aid kit—the First Responder kit.

Items that can help with the treatment of burns can be found in the First Responder kit. That same kit also contains items that facilitate delivery of first aid to those with fractures or other serious injuries. The First Responder kit provides those who use it with a ready supply of butterfly wound closures, fingertip plastic bandages, instant cold compresses, hot/cold compresses, soap towelettes, aspirin and ibuprofen tablets, decongestant and antiseptic spray.

The first responder kit also contains items that OSHA has chosen to pack into the Industrial Kit. Items found in both kits include the following: eye wash, burn cream, scissors, tweezers, antibiotic ointment, insect sting pads and exam gloves. The Industrial Kit provides the factory owner with tools that allow the factory owner to back-up assurance of concern for worker safety with a true readiness to handle any foreseeable accident.

Sometimes vacationers depend unknowingly on the presence of yet another OSHA first aid kit – The Pool Kit. The Pool Kit contains elbow and knee plastic bandages. It also contains a CPR one-way valve face shield. When making the Pool Kit, OSHA officials recognized the special hazards created when people let down there guard, while also flocking to an cement area, an area that surrounds some rather deep water.

A wise restaurant owner makes a point of purchasing an OSHA first aid kit that has been equipped with first aid items of value to those who might display symptoms of choking.

Do medical shoes make good walking shoes? That is the question that has entered the mind of the woman who penned the following article. The following article indicates that the right type of shoe would have alleviated some of the pain that was once experienced by a research technician in Houston. Yet the following article does not reveal just how much walking that technician had to do. She not only walked from one end of the hall to the next, she also walked, five days a week, from her small apartment to the hospital, where she worked in a research lab.

A research technician can benefit from wearing a good pair of medical shoes. The veracity of that statement was demonstrated by a young, female resident of Texas. When that young woman began her first job out of college, she joined the laboratory personnel in the research section of a Houston hospital.

For the first time in her life, that young woman had to put in an 8 hour day, five days a week. For the first time in her life, she found it necessary to put her feet up at night. Her feet got so dry that they began to bleed. She had to spend a large part of the day on her feet, yet she lacked a good pair of medical shoes.

Had that young lady worn a good pair of medical shoes, the moisture control feature in those shoes would have prevented kept her from getting chapped feet. Of course, that moisture control feature would not have prevented the soaking that the young lady’s shoes did eventually endure. Her shoes got soaked one morning, when she was on her way to the hospital.

As so often happens in Houston, umbrellas were a necessity on that day. The young woman walked down the sidewalk, protected from the rain by her umbrella. Still, that umbrella could not protect a pedestrian from a wave of water, a wave pushed up from a puddle by a passing motorist. That wave hit the young woman who was on her way to work. The young woman had to go home and put on an alternate pair of footwear. Ironically, the young woman appreciated the softer soles on that pair of substitute footwear. Unfortunately, those softer soles failed to provide the sort of support one gets from medical shoes. The young woman soon realized that she could not plan to wear the softer soles every day. The softer soles also failed to perform another function. That was not a function normally required of shoes (or of the sole on a shoe). That was the job created for the research technician’s foot, whenever she had to close a drawer, while carrying an object in each of her hands.

The technician’s big toe on her right foot had become very sore. Yet her shoes lacked the sort of toe line that is found in medical shoes. The pain in her toe increased, each time that she used her foot to close a drawer. Eventually, that young technician had to speak with a physician about an infection in the area of her toe joint. That physician prescribed some antibiotics, but that medicine did not seem to work. Both the technician and the physician remained unaware of another part of the woman’s body where bacteria had managed to grow and thrive.

For almost six months the young technician coped with a seemingly untreatable and recurring pain, a pain in the joint of her big toe. Finally, in June, another group of doctors discovered that the female technician carried her largest concentration of bacteria in her head.

It is essential for us to protect ourselves from getting hurt. The easiest way to protect ourselves from getting hurt is to stay inside our houses and never move from our bedrooms. However, protecting ourselves in this manner is very unrealistic because we need to live our lives by enjoying the outdoors and we also need to enjoy many indoor activities such as reading, watching television, and baking. Therefore, it is essential for people to know what to put in a first aid kit to take care of themselves in case they get hurt.

Its summertime and in the summertime we like to spend much time enjoying the outdoors. However, if we spend time outdoors it is possible to get hurt. Therefore, we might need to bring a first aid kit in order to repair any minor bumps and bruises that we get when we play outdoors. If we are going to have a first aid kid when we work and play outdoors this summer then, it is essential that we know what to put in a first aid kit. Therefore, for fun and educational purpose let’s peek into a first aid kit so we can know what to put in a first aid kit when we go outside to barbeque, swim, or fly a kite this summer.

A first aid kit is a collection of supplies and equipment in order to give first aid to people who need it. First aid kits contain a bunch of equipment that may contain bandages for controlling bleeding, personal protective equipment such as gloves, breathing barrier in order to perform both expired air resuscitation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and sometimes in a first aid kit there are actually instructions on how to perform first aid Most first aid kits have items that will treat minor injuries only. In addition, did you know that specialized first aid kits are available are available for various regions, vehicles, or activities; for example first aid kits that are sold through marine supply stores for watercraft use may contain seasick remedies. Now let’s peek a bit deeper into a first aid kit so that we gain much needed knowledge of what to put in a first aid kit.

A first aid kit is very useful when people go camping in the summertime. This is because summer is the peak time for camping, barbequing, swimming, bee stings, and mosquito bits. There is nothing that ruin a fun summer of camping that an untreated cut, bee sting, or mosquito bite. Therefore, we must know what to put in a first aid kit. If people have minor cuts then, they will use adhesive bandage to help their cuts heal. But, before they place bandages on their cuts to protect them from gems perhaps they would put some antibiotic ointment on the cut so it will heal faster. Did you know that there is both straight adhesive bandages and butterfly bandages?

In addition to bandages first aid kits have burn gel and painkillers. Burn gel is a water-based gel that acts as a cooling agent. There is also aloe Vera gel that is used for a bunch of skin problems such as burns, sunburns, itching, and dry skin. People should also have a blanket and aspirin in a first aid kit. People should always know what to put in a first aid kit.

The writer of the following article took part in various Girl Scout activities for ten consecutive years. The writer can remember having a Scout leader who did not hesitate to make use of the many items in a camping first aid kit. The writer can recall one weekend when one troop member developed a terrible blister. The writer heard from other Scouts that their leader had removed from the First Aid Kit a sterile and pointed object. She had used that pointed object to pierce and drain the one Scout’s blister. In July and August of 1968, the residents of Pennsylvania had daily reminders that they lived in a region that becomes uncomfortably hot and humid during the summer months. As the temperatures soared, one group of Girl Scout leaders supervised a Day Camp in southern Bucks County. As part of the Day Camp program, they had planned a cookout.

Now during a cookout, one typically feels the heat of the fire used to cook the food. If that heat is combined with the heat of the day, the conditions would seem to be right for the development of heat exhaustion. That fact underscores just one of the reasons that even day campers need a camping first aid kit.

That planned cookout provided the day campers with a taste of what it is like to be a “real” camper. Still, the Day Camp Director decided that she wanted to give her young Girl Scouts more than a “taste” of the complete camping experience. Before the end of their two week Day Camp experience those girls had demonstrated again and again that even day campers need a camping first aid kit.

The Camp Director decided to have her Girl Scouts enjoy one night of camping in a tent. She secured tents for the campers; and the leaders and campers set-up those tents. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during that set-up process. Had anyone been injured, the campers would certainly have used the appropriate items in a camping first aid kit.

Before the session had finished, that Girl Scouts had had what many of the young girls seem to have viewed as an “outdoor pajama party.” The night when the campers were supposed to sleep in the tent, they insisted on playing in and around the tent. Since a tent is not meant to be a play yard, the behavior of the campers could easily have led to creation of an accident.

Again, good fortune shone on that Day Camp and that Camp Director, Again, no injuries occurred. Still, the thought of young campers running around in the dark, should erase any doubts that a reader might have about the value of a camping first aid kit, even in a usually calm day camp setting.

Suppose that while running in the dark, one of the campers had run into some poison ivy. The next day, she would have been itching and scratching in many parts of her body. The Camp Nurse would have been able to provide that camper with relief, if the Camp Director had planned ahead, and had purchased a camping first aid kit.

Parents, no doubt, could picture many other scenes, scenes that would point-up the benefit of having a first aid kit available.

The writer of the following article did hear any first aid tips for kids while she was growing up. Still, she happened to have parents who knew how to swim, and who taught her to swim at an early age. In fact, her parents later helped the writer to improve her swimming skills and to learn the basic life saving techniques, techniques that can save lives when children play in and around water. Both the writer and her husband made certain that their sons joined the growing group of California children who can say with pride that they know how to swim.

In California, members of the Red Cross have long made clear their interest in sharing various first aid tips for kids. For ten years now, the Red Cross in southern California has partnered with different forms of media in the region. Those partnerships have sought to remove California from its number one spot among the areas with the most swimming pool injuries and related deaths.

Southern Californians who watch any of the programs on Channel 7 have no doubt seen ads about the “ABC’s of a Safe Summer.” For ten years now, Channel 7 has focused on certain first aid tips for kids during the summer months. Using TV spots, the Red Cross has been able to educate children about the importance of learning how to swim.

The importance of that message is so great, that a number of local groups have joined the effort to spread that message. The L.A. Department of Parks and Recreation, together with the Department of Water and Power, has added its voice to the voices coming from the Red Cross and from Channel 7. Those combined voices have acquainted parents and care givers with valuable first aid tips for kids.

The Red Cross knows that any group of first aid tips for kids should include rules for good conduct in and around a swimming pool Children need to understand the reason that a private pool must remain off-limits to the lone child swimmer. Meanwhile, children can benefit from learning CPR techniques.

The Red Cross of southern California has sponsored a series of fun events, events that focused on the need for CPR training. The children who attended those events also learned about water safety and about disaster preparedness. They no doubt left the event thinking that they had enjoyed some new water games. In fact, they had received a lesson on first aid tips for kids.

The Red Cross has encouraged a growing interest in the safety of California’s children. Some have tried to take lessons on safety into the classroom. Others have developed LA’s school Readiness Initiative (SRI). The SRI programs take the safety message to children who have not yet entered the school system.

SRI offers services that match with the linguistic and cultural needs of the area in which the children live. SRI has designed materials that the young children can relate to. Not every child in L.A. has a chance to visit the beach, or a chance to swim in a private pool.

The materials distributed through the SRI have helped children to become more sensitive to the needs of children who have disabilities. The SRI materials have brought information about child safety to a wide spectrum of children, including children with unique and special needs.
